How to Claim a Lottery Prize @Canadianlotto.ca
No matter if you've won $1 or $100 million, this straightforward guide will help you understand how to collect your lottery prize.
Important: All claims for National Lottery prizes must be submitted within 180 days from the date of the draw. The method of claiming your prize depends on both the prize amount and whether your ticket was purchased online or at a retailer. Continue reading to find out the steps to collect your winnings.
Claiming a Lottery Prize from an Online Purchase
All except the largest prizes will be credited automatically to your National Lottery online account. You will receive an email informing you of your win, and you’ll be prompted to log into your account to view the details.
Prizes up to $500
Any winnings up to $500 will be directly deposited into your lottery account shortly after the draw. You may then choose to either transfer the money to your bank account or use it to buy more tickets.
Prizes over $500 and up to $30,000
You need to confirm by 11:00 PM on the 180th day from the draw date that the prize should be transferred to your bank account linked via the debit card on your lottery account. To do this, simply log into your account and respond to the message provided by the National Lottery.
Prizes between $30,000 and $50,000
For prizes within this range, you must get in touch with the National Lottery before the claim period expires to arrange for your payment. You’ll need to call during standard office hours. Payments are made by cheque.
Prizes above $50,000
High-value prizes require an in-person claim. The first step is to contact the National Lottery and inform them of your winning ticket. They will collect some details by phone to validate the win and then set up an appointment for you to claim the prize in person.
Direct Debit
If you play using Direct Debit, any prize up to $50,000 will be sent directly to the bank account from which the payment is debited. For prizes over this amount, you’ll need to claim in person. If you win, you’ll still get a notification via email.
Claiming a Prize for In-Store Purchases
If you bought your ticket at a retailer, be sure to keep the physical ticket safe, as it is required to claim your winnings. If your ticket is lost or damaged, you may still be able to claim, but you must notify the National Lottery within 30 days of the draw. Visit the Lost or Damaged Tickets section for more details.
Prizes up to $100
You can collect a prize of up to $100 from any authorized National Lottery store. The payout may be in cash, or transferred to your debit card if the retailer offers that service.
Prizes between $101 and $500
Winnings within this range can be claimed from any participating lottery retailer with adequate funds. The payout can also be issued to your debit card. Alternatively, you can claim the prize at a National Lottery-affiliated Post Office or by mailing it in.
Prizes between $501 and $50,000
You can request the prize be deposited to your bank account by filling out an online claim form, including your email address and ticket information. You’ll also need to upload a photo of your winning ticket and provide bank details. Payment is usually made within 24 hours (or within two to three days if submitted on a weekend).
You may also send your claim by mail. For winnings above $500, you will need to provide identification. Acceptable forms of ID include:
- *Passport
- *Canadian birth certificate
- *Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) Card
- *Military or Police-issued Photo ID
Prizes above $50,000
Any prize above $50,000 must be claimed in person. Contact the National Lottery and provide your winning ticket details when requested. The National Lottery will check the provided information against their records. If everything matches, they will schedule an appointment for you to receive your prize in person — don’t forget to bring the ticket for verification.
You’ll also be required to complete a Prize Claim Form and submit a valid form of ID. The form is simple and asks for your personal details like name, address, phone number, bank account information, and your preferred method of payment.
